Posture training

Posture training is a preventive and therapeutic measure aimed at improving body posture and preventing or correcting postural damage. Through specific exercises and awareness exercises, individuals learn to optimize their body posture in everyday life to avoid pain and tension and to promote overall health.

When is posture training applied?

Posture training is used for various complaints and for general health promotion, including:

  • Chronic back pain and neck pain
  • Postural damage and misalignments
  • Scoliosis and other spinal deformities
  • Prevention of postural damage in children and adolescents
  • Occupational posture problems (e.g., in office work)
  • Rehabilitation after injuries or surgeries

Advantages of Posture Training

  • Pain relief: Effectively reduces chronic pain and muscle tension.
  • Improvement of posture: Promotes an upright and healthy posture.
  • Prevention: Prevents the development of postural damage and its subsequent complaints.
  • Increase in mobility: Improves the flexibility and mobility of joints and muscles.
  • Increase in body awareness: Increases awareness of one's own posture and movement patterns.
  • Holistic effect: Considers the body as a unit and addresses the causes of complaints.

Conducting the posture training.

  • Examination: The therapist conducts a thorough medical history and physical examination to identify specific posture problems.
  • Analysis: Posture is assessed using visual or technical methods (e.g., motion analysis).
  • Treatment: The therapist demonstrates specific exercises and techniques to improve posture. These include:
    • Strengthening exercises: Strengthening the core and back muscles to support the spine.
    • Stretching exercises: Improving flexibility and mobility of muscles and joints.
    • Ergonomic advice: Adjusting the workplace and daily environment to promote healthy posture.
    • Awareness exercises: Training body awareness and self-perception.
  • Duration of treatment: A posture training session usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.
  • Frequency of sessions: Regular sessions can be scheduled depending on the objectives.

What you need to consider before posture training

  • Health issues: Inform the therapist about existing health problems or injuries.
  • Medications: Let the therapist know if you are taking medications that could affect your physical performance.
  • Preparation: Wear comfortable clothing that allows unrestricted movement.

Debriefing and Consultation

After the posture training, the therapist will discuss the exercises and their execution with you. The therapist will assess whether further adjustments are necessary and how the posture training can be integrated into your general health or rehabilitation plan. Additional recommendations may include exercises for at home, adjustments in the daily routine, or other complementary measures to optimize the results.
