Orthopedic Emergencies

What is an emergency?

Please note that not every acute complaint is a medical emergency. However, please seek medical help immediately if severe pain, sudden restrictions in movement, suspected bone fracture, signs of paralysis, or rapidly increasing symptoms occur. After an operation, if problems arise, it is best to contact the practice or the hospital where the procedure was performed.

The following should be assessed particularly quickly:

  • Severely painful, red, warm joint (often with a protective posture in children).
  • Sudden onset of sensory disturbances or paralysis in the arms or legs and/or loss of control over bladder or bowel emptying.
  • A plaster or synthetic cast that feels very tight or pressing, or that causes tingling/numbness in fingers or toes.

Emergency appointment at our practice

If you have acute symptoms or sudden pain, you can book short-notice emergency appointments at our practice. Please primarily use the "Emergency appointment" button below to quickly book an appointment online, or call our practice directly. This allows us to quickly assess your concern and—if necessary—reserve a short-notice emergency appointment for you, so that you can be treated at our practice as soon as possible.

1450 - Emergency outside office hours

If you have urgent orthopedic problems outside our office hours, please contact the Austrian health advice service at phone number 1450. There, your symptoms will be medically assessed, and you will receive a recommendation on whether immediate care (e.g., accident and emergency department/emergency room) is necessary or whether a prompt appointment – possibly also as part of a 1450‑emergency appointment at our practice – is sufficient. Please choose this route particularly if you feel that swift action is urgently required.
